Educational Holiday Activities During Christmas Break
Your favorite time of the year is finally here. Create fond memories and make the most of your holiday season with PEL Learning Center’s list of fun Christmas activities for children and grown-ups alike.
Hang Stockings by the Fireplace
Complete your holiday decoration with Christmas mantel decorations. Your fireplace will look totally festive and ready for the holidays.
Read a Bedtime Story by the Tree
Gather the kids and cuddle up by the soft glow of Christmas lights as you read “The Night Before Christmas” or any favorite bedtime story.
Holiday Books from the Library
Save money and have some fun taking your children to the library to pick out holiday books that can be read repeatedly for the holiday season. Make a note of favorite books and buy them when they’re discounted after the holidays.
Have a Family Slumber Party Under the Christmas tree
Children love “camping” indoors, so grab pillows and blankets and spend the night sleeping underneath or around your Christmas tree. Nothing is more magical than awakening and staring up at the twinkling lights of your Christmas tree in the middle of the night. Yes, snuggling under warm blankets is a great feeling. You’ll create memories they’ll cherish forever.
Make the Tree Room the Game Room
Clear off the coffee table and the floor, and store puzzles and games under the Christmas tree and spend quality family time playing games there.
Make Pinecone Bird Feeders
This kid’s favorite is super simple to make. Let your child hunt for a pinecone, then slather it in peanut butter and roll it in bird seeds. Hang from a tree or bird feeder and watch for visiting delightful birds.
Visit a Tree-Lighting Ceremony
Kick off the holidays by attending your town’s tree-lighting ceremony.
Attend a Christmas musical Performance or Christmas Play
There are countless musical performances and Christmas play to attend during the holiday season that will deliver all the Christmas cheer you want.
Holiday Movie Night
The movies you watched with your children will become a family tradition which they will in turn share with your grandchildren. So, gather around with a bowl of popcorn and select your favorite holiday movies or Christmas classics such as “It’s a Wonderful Life” for a night that is sure to please the entire family.
Volunteer or Donate
You may volunteer at a local soup kitchen or donate a toy to a local toy drive. Holiday activities are great opportunities to instill the spirits of empathy and caring in your children. Volunteer time in a local soup kitchen or donate something – whether it’s money to a favorite charity, or toys, coats, and food to a local food bank, it’s what the season of giving is all about. Find a local organization via FoodPantries.org or FeedingAmerica.org.
See the Neighborhood Holiday Decorations
Pile in the car, and go on a nighttime tour of your town, check out the holiday lights and decorations. Make your trip extra cozy with a steaming mug of hot cocoa in your hand. Stay in the here and now: you will guarantee to make some fond memories this holiday season.
